NCJWC Toronto Our Projects Mitzvah Knitters

Mitzvah Knitters

Chairs: Elaine Barkin, Renee Birnbaum

Mitzvah Knitters is a group of committed women who volunteer their time and expertise to knit an assortment of items for those in need. Since its beginning ten years ago at Shaar Shalom Synagogue, this project has donated over 18,000 beautiful knit and crocheted items. We have gifted hats, scarfs, mittens, lap and baby blankets to hospitals, nursing homes, cancer care facilities Ve’ahavta, Project Linus, Israeli soldiers and shelters for the homeless and abused teens and women. We are continuing to introduce new projects as the need arises.

We are always looking for new members young and old, both novices and experts. Some of our knitters have been knitting for well over 70 years and have lots of knowledge and stories that they would love to share.

All our yarn is either donated or purchased through donations. If you would like to donate yarn or money to this worthwhile cause please do so by donating to NCJWC Toronto and earmark it to Mitzvah knitters.
