L'Chaim Cancer Support Group

Confidential peer support for Jewish women undergoing cancer treatment.

Hotline (416) 630 0203

All L’Chaim volunteers are Jewish women cancer survivors trained to provide confidential peer support to women who are newly diagnosed with cancer. L’Chaim raises cancer awareness through educational programs for both its members and the community.

The L’Chaim Hotline: Provides an empathetic ear to newly diagnosed patients and may refer clients on to the “Matchmaker” for the Telephone Buddy Network or to other agencies as needed.

Mailing List: Clients receive mailings about L’Chaim programs/social gatherings, if so desired.

The Telephone Buddy Network: Matches newly diagnosed clients with volunteers who have had similar cancer experiences. Effort is also made to also match according to age and interests.

Gift Bags: Bags are delivered to new clients, containing items to bring strength, comfort and valuable information to help cope with cancer treatment.

Therapeutic: Music and art therapy and stress management

Educational: Topics such as nutrition, osteoporosis and lymphedema

Social Gatherings:

  • Periodic social events, such as a yearly Chanukah party, where volunteers and clients can “mix, mingle and schmooze” in a relaxed atmosphere.
  • Community-Wide Cancer Awareness Events
Presentation of important informational evenings to raise cancer awareness.
  • Speakers’ Bureau
Provides speakers for other community groups to raise cancer awareness.
